In an eighteen month period during 2002 and 2003, David made twenty-five sketchbooks that chronicle his travels in Norway, Iceland and in and around his homes in London and Los Angeles. Shown now for the first time, fifteen of these palm-sized sketchbooks are reproduced in this DVD—in their entirety—in high-resolution digital format. In order to preserve the integrity of the line, the pages are rendered in their actual size—two-page spreads of 4 1/2in. x 12in.

These small-scale drawings—pencil, pen & ink, and watercolor—bring us close to his hand and eye, and to the various subjects that catch his attention during his daily travels – friends, landscapes, still lifes, hotel rooms, his own London studio, a taxi interior, a chair, a teapot or salt shaker on a table;—the numerous details that make up his days.

A technical note: This DVD is optimized for computer viewing only. The minimum screen resolution required is 1280 x 854 , for Mac OSX or Windows XP. Some higher resolution displays may render the pages slightly smaller than the actual size of the sketchbooks, but never larger.
